What equipment do we use?
We only use electro-hydraulic motors. These units have up to a 2 Year guarantee and are a superior product for longevity, minimum maintenance and reliability. We only use the best brand named equipment for the task.
What power supply is required for the system?
There are a number of different systems on the market today. Some are "three phase" Heavy industrial. Though the majority of domestic gate systems are "240v mains". Supply for the automation alone is often too little for supplementary equipment, such as communications, lighting or maintenance tools i.e. welding, drilling etc. Therefore we recommend that a suitable 240V, 13amp constant and dedicated supply is provided and is fully RCD protected.
What Cabling is required?
Four types of cables are required:
Can I install the Control Unit?
Most people with good DIY skills could install our kits; however, we strongly recommend you use a qualified electrician to carry out the final connections. In our experience the main issue in maintaining a reliable system is to ensure all cable entries are water and insect tight as failure to ensure this will result in control panel failure in the near future
What happens if the automation fails and I can't get in?
The electric gates come with the ability to be manually operated ensuring that the gates or doors can be open and closed in the unlikely event of a power failure or other problems.
Do cables need to be put under my drive?
You will have to install a power cable to the control panel, from this panel you need to install cables to the gate motor(s) and the safety photo cells. These ideally need to be installed prior to the new driveway being installed. However on existing properties you may need to saw cut the existing driveway or take up the paving stones to install these cables.
Does the automation lock my gates shut?
Depending on which type of automation is used the gates will either automatically lock shut or be held in place by very strong underground motors.
How secure are the gates when closed?
Most gates will be reasonably secure when closed. The level of security is relevant to the type of locking. Mechanical locks being the most secure.
Will a Gate Opener work on any gate?
Our products are designed to fit on most types of gates - swing in, swing out (not recommended), sliding, and farm, domestic and industrial. Check individual motor spec sheets for specific details.
How long does it take to open my gates?
Depending on your choice of model, between 8 – 16 seconds.
What happens if there is a power cut?
On our gate automation kits a key is provided which allows the gates to be released from the automation mechanism and thus enabling them to be operated by hand. Once power is restored the gates can be easily reconnected to the automation mechanism.
Are solid gates affected by wind?
Closed board gates or solid gates are affected by wind resistance and should only be installed in sheltered environments. The larger the opening or gate leaf the bigger the potential problems may be. Gate Openers must be strong enough to push through the extra resistance.
How wide will a Swing Gate open?
From 90° up to 175°.
How much clearance do I need for a Swing Gate Operator?
You will need a minimum of 65mm from the gate hinge and the gate post to the centre of the hinge pin.
Can the Sliding Gate Operator work left or right hand?
Yes. Simply swap the motor wires and Limit Switch inputs.
Can I order an extra Handset Transmitter?
Yes, as many as you like, whenever you like.
How do I operate my electric gates?
Your gates can be operated by a number of methods including keypads on the gate post, an intercom or button within your property, remote controls, and light beam sensors, induction loops in the driveway, timers and even by mobile phone!
The most popular method is the key fob supplied with the kit. Other ways include Wireless digital keypad, hard wired keypad or Videx range of access control systems such as an "Audio" or "Video" entry link etc.
How do visitors get in without a Handset Transmitter?
There are several access options available:
How do I use the gates as a pedestrian?
Pedestrian access can gain access in many ways. The most popular is for a keypad or key to be located near the gates. When the key is inserted or the code entered one gate will open to allow access.
What happens when visitors or deliveries arrive and the gates are closed?
Systems can be designed to allow free access to all or impose restricted entry according to client needs. During restricted entry, different command devices maybe used such as "Codes", "Cards" or the visitor may request entry via a communications system, such as an "Audio" or "Video" entry system.
Can I use one remote control to operate multiple gates and or my garage door?
In a word - Yes! In most cases we can provide remote controls and automation to enable multiple gates and garage doors to work from one remote control.
Will my gates close behind me?
You can set your gates to close after a set period of time, this time is adjustable via the control panel. However if you use the automatic closing feature we strongly advise that safety photo cells are installed between the gates.
How do I stop my gates closing on my car or children?
This is a concern many people have. We have a range of methods that ensure that the gates do not close if the entrance is blocked. These include induction loops and safety beams.
Does the equipment require servicing?
Like any electronic or mechanical equipment that includes moving parts, especially outdoors, servicing is recommended. This should be carried out annually but we recommend that monthly visual checks are carried out by the owner to ensure the motors and equipment are not being impeded.
How far will the radio controls work?
The radio key fobs have a range of up to150 metres dependant on location of receiver aerial, obstacles, electrical interference etc.
How do my visitors leave?
Ground Loops can be installed into the drive way and when the visitors are leaving the gate is open by driving over the ground loop.
What do you do if you don't want the gates to close automatically?
Change Dip Switch settings within the control panel.
What causes the gates to stay open?
Do I need a Ground Stop on Double Gates?
Yes, this causes the hydraulic oil within the operators to build pressure which ensures the gates are secure in both open and closed positions the ground stops are strongly recommended in both the open and closed positions. (3 stops are required) These are normally 50mm square steel box section secured in ground using concrete.
Can the gate close automatically?
Yes. There is a time-adjustable auto close switch built in.
What about extra security?
An Electric Lock can be added to most swing gates. In addition, we offer a range of intercom systems – from simple 2-wire Audio to colour Video units.
What other Safety Features are available?
We can also provide:
